Royal Enfield launched its most anticipated product, the Himalayan 450, last year. We rode it up in the northern hills, and now also have it in the BikeWale long-term fleet. The bike has already clocked a few thousand kilometres and seems to be growing on the team as well. If you are planning to purchase one, then here are some aspects about it that you should know.

What are the specifications and fuel economy of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450?

The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is powered by the brand’s latest Sherpa 450 engine. It is a 452cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor and makes 40bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm at 5,000rpm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox. From our experience with the ADV, its engine feels flat till the 4,000rpm mark but post that, the power unloads in a quick but gradual manner. The bike accelerates spritely and is quite fun and engaging to ride.

During the BikeWale fuel efficiency test, the Himalayan 450 returned 30.85kmpl. The bike was ridden in mixed traffic conditions, including in the city and on open freeways as well. If you pair the aforementioned fuel efficiency with the bike’s fuel tank capacity of 17 litres, then the average range should be around 520km, which is a substantial figure.

What are the colour options available for the new Himalayan 450?

Royal Enfield offers the Himalayan 450 in five paint schemes – Kaza Brown, Slate Himalayan Salt, Slate Poppy Blue, Kamet White, and Hanle Black.

What are the variants, prices, and rivals of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450?

There are four variants of the Himalayan 450 – Base, Pass, Summit, and Hanle Black. The asking price for the Base model is Rs. 2.85 lakh, Rs. 2.89 lakh for the Pass trim, Rs. 2.93 lakh for Summit, and Rs. 2.98 lakh (all ex-showroom, Chennai) for the Hanle Black option. The Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 rivals the KTM 390 Adventure, Triumph Scrambler 400X, and the Yezdi Adventure.
