In August 2022, Mahindra & Mahindra announced its five upcoming electric SUVs based on the brand’s all-new INGLO EV skateboard platform. The upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs will come under two sub-brands – XUV.e (XUV.e8 and XUV.e9) and BE (BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09).
While the first XUV.e range EV is slated to launch in December 2024, the first BE model will hit roads in October 2025. In the process of getting them into the market in their production-ready avatar, the company has been testing the vehicles and recently registered four new names – XUV 7XO, XUV 5XO, XUV 3XO, and XUV 1XO.
As of now, it’s not clear which nameplate will be used for which EV. Though, we expect that the electric iteration of the Mahindra XUV700, which was showcased as the XUV.e8 concept, could be named Mahindra XUV 7XO. The electric XUV500 and XUV300 might be christened as Mahindra XUV 5XO and XUV 3XO, respectively. The Mahindra 1XO is expected to be an all-new small electric car. The upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs are likely to be high on features and performance. Powertrain details are still under wraps. Though, we expect them to come with battery packs ranging between 60kWh – 80kWh.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO and 5XO might come with single and dual electric motor options and an AWD system. The Mahindra XUV 3XO and 1XO, on the other hand, could get a single electric motor only. More details on the upcoming Mahindra electric SUVs are expected to be revealed in the near future.
In other fresh updates, Mahindra & Mahindra and Volkswagen Group signed a joint venture under which both brands will share electric vehicle components for their upcoming EVs. Mahindra will source batteries for its upcoming INGLO platform-based electric SUVs, while Volkswagen will use this technology for 80 percent of its battery cells to reduce production costs. Both OEMs will also explore local manufacturing options.
