Triumph Thruxton 400 – What do we know so far?

After the launch of the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X, Bajaj-Triumph is working on a third motorcycle using the 400cc engine platform. The motorcycle in question is the upcoming Triumph Thruxton 400, and here’s everything you need to know about it.

Design

The Triumph Thruxton 400 is the café racer version of the Speed 400. It gets an old-school semi-fairing, which looks similar to that of the Speed Triple RR. Moreover, it also features low-set clip-on bars in place of the single-piece handlebar, which should offer a sportier riding position.

Features

Features-wise, we expect the Thruxton 400 to offer similar levels of equipment as its siblings. So, it will come loaded with LED lighting, ride-by-wire throttle, USB-C charging socket, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Meanwhile, its safety features will include dual-channel ABS, switchable traction control system, and an assist and slipper clutch.

Specifications

Powering the Thruxton 400 will be the tried and tested 399cc, liquid-cooled motor that also powers the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X. The single-cylinder motor puts out 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm, and offers a refined and punchy performance. The engine is paired with a sleek-shifting six-speed gearbox.

Cycle Parts

The motorcycle will feature a similar componentry as that of the Speed 400. So, expect it to come shod with USD forks up front and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the back. Given its racy design, the suspension setup should feature a slightly sportier tuning compared to its roadster sibling.

Meanwhile, the Thruxton 400 will ride on 17-inch wheels and stickier tyres, which should offer sporty dynamics. That said, the braking setup should be carried over from the Speed 400.

Launch Timeline and Price

Bajaj Auto is known to introduce new products around the festive period, and we wouldn’t be surprised if the Triumph Thruxton 400 is launched in around September-October 2024. We believe the Thruxton 400 will be positioned as an aspirational offering and will sit above the Scrambler 400 X, so it is expected to command a slight premium over the scrambler.
