The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback is about to launch in India. Before its official arrival (on 9th May 2024), the carmaker has released a teaser, revealing the new front grille, sleeker headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs), and an angular, slightly more pronounced bonnet. The body panels are painted red, with the ORVMs (outside rearview mirrors) and roof in contrasting black. Along with the teaser, the Indo-Japanese automaker has also opened booking windows for the new 2024 Maruti Swift. Customers can pre-book the car for a token sum of Rs 11,000, either online or at any Arena dealership.
A significant change in the new Maruti Swift will be the introduction of a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated Z-Series petrol engine, replacing the existing K12 engine. While this new engine will be more fuel-efficient, the power and torque figures are expected to be similar to the outgoing K12, which delivers a claimed power of 90bhp and 113Nm of torque.
The Z-Series engine will also come with mild hybrid technology. It’s worth noting that the Japanese-spec Swift has a strong hybrid system with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The Indian version will continue to offer both manual and automatic manual transmission (AMT) gearbox options.
The new 2024 Maruti Swift will share several features with the Fronx compact crossover. It will have an entirely new dashboard with a dual-tone Black & Beige theme. A 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, similar to the Fronx, will be part of the standard equipment. Additional features include a flat-bottom steering wheel, automatic climate control, ventilated seats, keyless entry, analogue dials with a multi-information display (MID), and more.
For safety provision, the new Maruti Swift is likely to offer six airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and brake assist. With this new generation, the Swift will grow in length by about 15mm. However, its overall width and height will be slightly trimmed down.
