The sales graph for utility vehicles (UVs), including SUVs and MPVs, has been showing sustained double-digit growth in the country. Several factors have contributed to the rising demand for UVs, including new product launches, effective marketing, and an improving economy. SUVs, in particular, have always been favored for their high ground clearance, better visibility, comfort, increased cabin space, and enhanced safety. In April 2024, the Tata Punch retained the top spot with total sales of 19,158 units, marking a 75% year-on-year (YoY) growth. Maruti Suzuki’s Brezza, a sub-4-meter SUV, ranked second with 17,113 units sold, compared to 11,836 units in the same month last year.

Hyundai’s Creta was the third-best-selling SUV in April 2024, with total sales of 15,447 units. The Mahindra Scorpio recorded a YoY sales growth of 54%, with sales reaching 14,807 units, compared to 9,617 units in April 2023. Read: 3 Big Car Launches In May 2024
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which became an instant hit, secured the fifth position with monthly sales of 14,286 units. Last year, it sold 8,784 units in the same month, indicating a YoY growth of 63%. The Tata Nexon, Mahindra Bolero, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet grabbed the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth spots, with sales of 11,168 units, 9,537 units, 9,120 units, and 7,901 units, respectively.
With sales of 7,756 units, Hyundai’s Exter secured the tenth position among India’s top 10 best-selling SUVs. It was followed by the Maruti Grand Vitara with 7,651 units, Kia Seltos with 6,734 units, Mahindra Thar with 6,160 units, and Mahindra XUV700 with 6,134 units.
In the MPV segment, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga took the lead with sales of 13,544 units, followed by the Maruti Eeco with the same number of units sold. The Toyota Innova Crysta and Kia Carens ranked as India’s third and fourth best-selling MPVs, with sales of 7,103 units and 5,328 units, respectively.
