CFMoto 500SR Voom retro sportbike unveiled

– Features retro styling from the 1980s and 1990s

– Powered by a 500cc, inline-four cylinder motor

CFMoto has unveiled its first-ever incline-four cylinder sportbike, the 500SR Voom, in China. The 500SR Voom is the second motorcycle based on the 500cc, four-cylinder engine platform after the 500SR. Interestingly, the CFMoto 500SR is yet to make its global debut.

The CFMoto 500SR Voom takes design inspiration from the 1990s retro-styled sports bikes such as the Honda CBR900RR and the Kawasaki ZXR750. It marks a return to the smooth, curved styles of the 80s and 90s, with a clear departure from the sharp angles and various cuts and creases. The most eye-catching design highlights are the dual air intake ducts flanked by LED daytime running lights, with the headlamp positioned lower below.

The motorcycle shares its engine and chassis with the 500SR prototype. The 500SR Voom uses a tubular steel frame, suspended by upside-down forks and an aluminium swingarm with a rear monoshock. It also features high-set exhaust pipes on each side to enhance the retro appeal of the bike. The 500SR Voom also comes equipped with a colour TFT display.

Although CFMoto is yet to reveal its power figures, reports suggest that the 500cc, inline-four cylinder motor is expected to produce around 80bhp and a peak torque of 45Nm. If these numbers are anything to go by, the 500SR Voom will be in the same ballpark as the Kawasaki ZX-4RR, which makes 76bhp at 14,500rpm and 39 Nm at 13,000 rpm.

The CFMoto 500SR Voom will be a China-only model initially, but could be launched in certain global markets. While the possibility of an India launch is highly questionable, the motorcycle could pave the way for other OEMs to revive the low-capacity, four-cylinder two-wheeler market.
