Honda recalls 20,000 Gold Wing, CBR1000RR Fireblade, and CBR 600 RR!

– Recall issued in America and Germany

– All three models are equipped with faulty fuel pump

– So far 142 bikes have been found with the said issue

Honda Motorcycles has issued a recall across America and Germany for three of its motorcycles – Gold Wing, CBR1000RR Fireblade, and CBR 600 RR. The bikes produced in 2018, 2019 and 2020 are likely to be affected and there could be as many as 20,000 units that would need to be recalled. Of the total, 17,374 are from the USA and 2,264 are from Germany.

Honda says the reason for this recall is a faulty fuel pump. Its impeller plastic hasn’t been cast as per the specifications and isn’t hard enough. It could develop cracks if contacted with petrol residue solvents for a long time. This could lead to a fuel pump failure which may end in stalling the engine.

To fix this, the Japanese bikemaker has initiated the recall and will replace the fuel pump free of cost. In Germany, the Honda Gold Wings built from 2018 to 2020, the CBR 1000 RR Fireblade produced between 2018 and 2019, and the CBR 600 RR from 2018 to 2020, are probably in need of the said repair. So far, Honda has come across this issue only in America and Germany. We are yet to know whether the same applies to any other markets as well.

That said, currently Honda India only offers the Gold Wing Tour in our country. While it had the CBR1000RR-R too on sale, the product was recently taken off the shelves.
