BYD (Build Your Dreams) has launched the much-awaited Seal electric sedan in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 41 lakh (ex-showroom). The sedan is available in 3 variants – Dynamic, Premium and Performance – priced at Rs 41 lakh, Rs 45.55 lakh and Rs 53 lakh, respectively. It is the brand’s 3rd EV in our market after the eV6 and the Atto 3 SUV. BYD has received over 200 bookings for the electric sedan in the past 1 week.

Commenting on the response, Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, senior VP of electric passenger vehicle business, BYD India, said, “We are overwhelmed by the incredible response from customers in India. This demonstrates the growing appetite for luxurious and high-performance electric vehicles in India.”

Interested buyers can book the new BYD Seal electric sedan online or at authorised dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 1.25 lakh. Customers who will book the Seal EV before March 31, 2024 will get additional services such as free installation of home charger, a 3kW portable charging box and 6 years RSA (roadside assistance).

BYD Seal Specifications

The Seal electric sedan is available with two battery options – 61.44kWh and 82.56kWh. The smaller battery pack comes with a single motor positioned on the rear axle. This motor is rated at 204hp and 310Nm of torque, and the battery is claimed to offer a range of 510km in a single charge (NEDC cycle).

The larger 82.5kWh battery pack equipped with SEAL is offered in both RWD and AWD configurations. In single motor RWD guise, the Seal EV produces 312hp and 360Nm of torque. In the top-spec dual-motor AWD system, the EV produces 530hp and 670Nm of torque. The RWD version is claimed to offer a range of 650km in a single charge, while the AWD version returns 580km of range. The BYD Seal AWD variant is claimed to achieve 0-100kmph acceleration in just 3.8 seconds.

The Seal electric sedan supports fast charging with 150kW DC fast charger. The battery can be charged from 10-80 percent in just 37 minutes. With a regular 11kW AC charger, the battery can be fully charged in 8.6 hours. It supports Vehicle to Load (V2L) charging. BYD is also offering 8 year/1.6 lakh km warranty on the battery and 8 year/1.5 lakh km warranty on the motor and motor controller unit.

BYD Seal Features

The entry-level Dynamic variant comes with several high-end features including LED lighting system, sequential rear turn indicators, leatherette upholstery, powered driver & co-driver seat, dual-zone AC, ventilated & heated front seats, dual-zone AC, panoramic sunroof, 15.6-inch rotational touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, 10 airbags, 360 degree camera, Electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill hold assist, ESC, traction control, all-wheel disc brakes, ADAS and rain sensing wipers. It rides on 18-inch alloy wheels.

The BYD Seal Premium version comes with features including leather seat upholstery, 4-way power lumbar adjustment driver’s seat, driver’s seat with memory function, memory function for ORVMs, Heads-Up Display and Door mirror auto tilt function. This variant rides on 19-inch alloy wheels. The top-spec Seal Performance variant gets additional electronic child lock and intelligent torque adaption control (ITAC).
