MG Motor To Launch 2 New Cars This Year

In order to improve sales, MG Motor India is now planning to launch two new products in the Indian market this year. Speaking to ETAuto, Gaurav Gupta, Deputy Managing Director, MG Motor India reveals that they will launch two new cars in the second half of 2024 and one of them is an EV.

MG Motor entered the Indian market with the Hector SUV in 2019. The company is currently selling multiple SUVs including the Astor, Gloster, Hector twins and ZS EV. Adding to it, MG has Comet EV as its entry-level model. Few days back, MG Motor India reduced the prices of the Comet EV and the ZS EV. After the price reduction, the brand’s electric vehicles have seen a 70% uptake in bookings.

It is expected that MG Motor could launch the re-badged Baojun Yep Plus in the Indian market. In fact, the 3-door Yep design patent has already been leaked on the internet. It will be the first product release post collaboration between SAIC (the parent company of MG Motor) and JSW Group, owned by Sajjan Jindal. The JSW Group holds a 35% stake in the JV, which aims to introduce both ICE and EVs in the country.

The Yep Plus is a 5-door electric SUV with a wheelbase of 2,560mm. Measuring 3.4 meters in length, the electric SUV is 75mm wider and 5mm taller than the 3-door Yep. The wheelbase has been increased by 450mm. The new electric SUV is based on the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform, which also underpins the Comet EV.

The electric SUV comes equipped with a 28.2kWh battery pack with a rear axle mounted electric motor that produces 102bhp. It is claimed to offer a range of around 401km of a range on the CLTC cycle and has a top speed of 150kmph.
