New Kia Clavis SUV – What All We Know So Far!

The Kia Clavis will be the third SUV and fifth offering from the South Korean automaker in India. Codenamed AY, this model will measure less than 4 meters in length and will take a position between the Sonet and Seltos in the company’s product lineup. Testing of the vehicle has already begun, and the production-ready version is expected to hit roads in the second half of 2024.

In the market, the all-new Clavis will compete against the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch. Let’s delve into all the key details of the new Kia small SUV that we have gathered from the spy images.

The Clavis will have a boxier stance compared to the Sonet and Seltos. Upfront, it will feature Kia’s signature grille, LED headlamps mounted on the bumper, wider and lower air dams, and a flatter nose. In fact, the test mule was spotted with cameras mounted on the front grille and ORVM, indicating the presence of a 360-degree camera. The new Kia Clavis will also feature dual-tone alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, L-shaped LED taillamps, and slightly lower positioned brake lights.

Interior details of the new Kia small SUV are currently scarce. However, a few spy images confirm that the Clavis will come with a panoramic sunroof, a first in its category. Higher trims may exclusively offer dual-tone leatherette seats with ventilated functions.

At the rear, there will be a single bench-type seat with adjustable headrests for the side occupants and an armrest. Rear AC vents, phone charging sockets, and three-point seatbelts for all three rear passengers will further enhance its comfort quotient.

Under the hood, the new Kia Clavis is expected to feature a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0L turbo petrol engine.

Speculations suggest that the carmaker might also introduce an electric version of its small SUV at a later stage. It is expected to come with a battery pack of around 30-35kWh capacity and an electric motor mounted at the front axle. The small Kia electric SUV is likely to deliver a range of around 350km – 400km on a full charge.
