Suzuki Escudo, Torqnado Names Trademarked

It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki will enter into multiple new segments including electric and 7-seater SUV in the next 1 year. Now, Maruti’s parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation has filed trademarks for two new names – Suzuki Escudo and Torqnado – in India. The new names could be used on the Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming models, which will be launched in the next 3-4 years.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the new-gen Swift, Dzire and the production version of the EVX electric SUV in the next 1 year. Adding to it, the company is developing multiple other models including the 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara, an electric MPV, an electric hatchback, a new micro SUV, and new entry-level compact MPV.

For people not in the know, Suzuki uses the Escudo nameplate for the Vitara SUV in its home market. We believe that the company could use the Escudo nameplate for the upcoming 3-row SUV, which will be based on the Grand Vitara. The new SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming 7-seater Renault SUV based on the Bigster. The new 3-row SUV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s new Kharkhoda facility in Haryana.

The new Maruti 7-seater SUV will be based on the modified global C platform, which also underpins the Brezza and the Grand Vitara. It is likely to be offered with the 1.5K K15C petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle strong hybrid powertrains.

The Suzuki Torqnado is an all-new name and could be used to name the upcoming electric vehicles including the EVX and an all-new compact MPV. The electric SUV is scheduled to debut in its production version in late 2024, while launch could take place in early 2025. The new compact electric MPV is expected to be launched in 2025-26.
