MG Motor India is planning to launch two new electric vehicles including a five-door SUV and a compact MPV. Both models will be based on the E260 EV platform and will be priced under Rs 15 lakh. The new electric MPV will be based on the Wuling Cloud MPV, which is on sale in Indonesia. On the other hand, the electric SUV is likely to be based on the Baojun Yep Plus 5-door electric crossover which is currently on sale in China.
The styling of the Baojun Yep Plus SUV is inspired from the 3-door version. It will be marketed as a rugged electric SUV. Similarly, Suzuki is also developing an electric version of the Jimny lifestyle SUV. The SUV retains the boxy styling and retro design highlights. The front fascia features a closed-off grille, a prominent black bumper, and squared-shaped LED headlamps. The SUV is offered in quirky dual-tone colour options in blue and a white roof. The other design details include blackened pillars, five-spoke rims, squared wheel arches with small profile tyres, short overhangs, and a swing-out trunk door.
The SUV has a simpler rear profile with flat glass area, LED tail-lights and uniquely styled tailgate and dual-tone bumper. The Baojun Yep Plus measures 3996mm in length, 1760mm in width and 1,726mm in height, which makes it 600mm longer and 75mm wider and taller, respectively, than the 3-door model. It rides on a 2,560mm long wheelbase, which is again 450mm longer than the 3-door Yep.
The new MG Yep Plus 5-door electric SUV is claimed to offer a range of 401km (CLTC) in a single charge. It offers a top speed of 150kmph. The 3-door Yep model delivers a range of 303km on the CLTC cycle. The SUV features a single electric motor with 75kW (101bhp), which is placed on the rear axle.
Talking about the electric MPV, the new Cloud EV is equipped with a 50.6kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a front-axle mounted electric motor. The combined power and torque output stands at 134bhp and 240Nm, respectively. It is claimed to offer a range of up to 505km in a single charge. The entry-level variant offers a range of up to 460km in a single charge.
