Tata Motors had showcased the sportier version of the Altroz hatchback, called the Altroz Racer at last year’s Auto Expo. The company has recently showcased the slightly different version of the hatchback at this year’s Bharat Mobility Show. In fact, the sportier hatchback has been caught testing a couple of times on the Indian roads. It is expected that the new Tata Altroz Racer edition could be launched sometime in April 2024.
The hatchback will receive multiple visual changes along with some added features. On the exterior, the sportier hatchback will have a dual-tone paint scheme with twin racing stripes on the bonnet and roof. The ‘Racer’ badging will be added on the front fenders, while the front has a more prominent grille. It rides on newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin will have multiple changes in the form of a new, bigger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which we have recently seen on new Tata SUVs. It will be equipped with ventilated front seats, 360-degree surround view camera, a heads-up display and an electric sunroof. It is expected to receive new leatherette upholstery with contrasting stitching & Racer insignia embossed on the seats. The sportier hatchback is likely to be offered with 6 airbags and ESC as standard.
The Altroz Racer edition is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbo petrol engine that powers the Nexon SUV. This engine produces 120hp and 170Nm of torque, which is 10hp and 30Nm more than the Altroz iTurbo’s 1.2L engine. Power will be transmitted to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox. As a reminder, the iTurbo version is offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
