The two indigenous automakers, Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra, have a range of new electric SUVs slated to go on sale in the next couple of years. Talking about their immediate plans, Tata will introduce the Curvv electric coupe SUV, and Mahindra will launch the XUV300 EV by June 2024. Let’s delve into some key details of both forthcoming electric SUVs.
Upcoming Electric SUVs – Launch By Mid 2024
Tata Curvv EV
The Tata Curvv EV will be the brand’s second production-ready model to underpin the Acti.ev platform that debuted with the Punch.ev. Just so you know, Tata’s new architecture is compatible with multiple vehicle sizes and drivetrain setups (FWD, RWD, and AWD). It also supports larger battery packs, so we can expect the Curvv EV to offer a range of around 500 km. Its powertrain specifications are still under wraps. We have already seen the Tata Curvv in its final avatar, which remains true to its concept. Inside, the electric SUV is likely to feature free-standing dual digital screens – one working as an infotainment system and one as an instrument cluster. Similar to the new breed of Tata cars, it will have a new steering wheel with a backlit logo and a rotary knob for drive modes.
Mahindra XUV300 EV
The Mahindra XUV300 EV will come as a direct rival to the Tata Nexon EV, which is reported to hit showrooms by June 2024. Unlike the XUV400 EV, it will measure under 4 meters and share most of its design elements with the upcoming Mahindra BE electric SUVs. That means it will look slightly different from its ICE version. A few changes will also be made inside the cabin. The XUV300 EV is likely to come with a slightly revised dashboard and center console and a larger infotainment system. The powertrain setup of the EV is likely to include a 35 kWh battery pack. When it comes to pricing, the Mahindra XUV300 EV will be less expensive than its elder sibling. Its base version might cost around Rs 15 lakh, and the top-end trim is expected to be priced nearly Rs 17 lakh.
