It’s surely an exciting news two-wheeler enthusiasts! The new Honda Activa electric scooter is ready to enter production by December 2024 at the company’s Karnataka based facility. Its market launch is likely to happen in early 2025. Codenamed K4BA, the Honda Activa EV will emerge as a new rival to the Ather 450X, Ola S1 and TVS iQube. Details of the electric scooter are scanty at this point of time. What we know so far that it will be a ‘mid-range’ e-scooter with a fixed battery. It’s likely to be a mass-market offering with aggressive pricing.

The Honda Activa EV will be based on a dedicated platform (Platform E) that will be used for multiple upcoming electric models with different battery architecture and installation. The Japanese two-wheeler maker has already filed patent for EV technology including fixed battery, motors, controllers, chargers, etc. The patents hint that the new Honda electric scooter will have a fixed battery placed under the floorboard and a hub motor at the rear wheel.

In addition to the Activa EV, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) will introduce a new EV that’s likely to come with a swappable battery.  The two-wheeler maker had revealed its plan to setup battery swapping stations at its 6,000 touchpoints nationwide. With an aim to cater the demand for its electric vehicles, Honda is establishing a new dedicated Factory ‘E’ at Narsapura facility in Karnataka. The plant will achieve production of 1 million units by 2030. Honda will source the batteries and power control units for its upcoming electric vehicles.

In other fresh updates, HMSI has inaugurated its new engine assembly line at its Manesar-based Global Resource Factory in Gurugram, Haryana. This new unit will focus on CKD (completely knocked down) assembly of engines and have a production capacity of 600 engines per day. It will manufacture motors for vehicles ranging rom 110cc to 300cc, and cater to Honda’s global market as well.
