Opinion: Leaked pictures of Bajaj Pulsar NS400 get a lot of flak

Bajaj will officially launch the new Pulsar NS400 on 3 May but unofficially, a few photos of the bike have already been leaked, intentionally or maybe unintentionally. Soon after we published the story of these pictures on various platforms, a large number of people weren’t happy about the overall styling of the new Pulsar NS400, some of us included.

The Indian consumers expected this “biggest Pulsar” to have an awe-inspiring design. But, if the leaked pictures are to be believed, this new Bajaj won’t look radically different than its 200cc sibling. And that’s the issue.

Out of all the styling elements of the new Pulsar NS400, the fascia carries a brand-new design. The headlamp unit is quite large and inside that, there’s a projector lamp which is surrounded by sharp-looking designed DRLs.

From the side, it is clear that this new Pulsar has some design elements that look similar to the Pulsar LS 135 and the Pulsar NS200. The tank shrouds on the NS400,in fact, look quite identical to that of the 135cc variant, although they are larger. The overall silhouette, rom the fuel tank to the grab rail, also has a Pulsar NS200 inspiration.

The issue is that the Pulsar NS200 was launched more than a decade ago, and the basic styling elements of this bike haven’t changed drastically over the years. The flak on the internet could be because the Pulsar NS400, which is being launched in 2024, also carries a lot of styling elements from its younger sibling. That is because Indian consumers have matured and want something that is radically different and looks outstanding.

From the current leaked pictures, the new Pulsar NS400 doesn’t look enticing or highly aspirational. But this could change, once the actual pictures of the bike are revealed, and also when we see the bike in person. Also, given the Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.2 lakh, ex-showroom, price that Bajaj is targeting, they would not have been able to invest in developing a completely new design and chassis as that would have driven up costs.
