EXCLUSIVE! Ola electric motorcycle design patent leaked

-Looks like a commuter motorcycle

-Gets basic suspension and a disc brake at the front

-Battery and motor housed in one unit

Ola Electric has big plans for the future and it includes foraying into the electric motorcycle space. The company had made announcements about the same over a year ago and we’ve now got access to the design patent of one of the electric motorcycles that it plans to introduce.

The images of this Ola electric motorcycle suggest that it could be an entry-level offering, likely for the commuter segment. This is evident from the hardware and other visible details. The bike has a conventional telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers at the rear. One can also spot a simple, box-section swingarm.

It rides on what appears to be 17-inch alloy wheels shod with tyres whose size is typically what one sees on a commuter. Narrow tyres will help reduce drag and that translates to efficiency. And, in the case EVs, especially, efficiency is of utmost importance.

Speaking of, Ola is expected to plonk a new electric motor and battery in this electric motorcycle. It will be located around the same place where you’d usually find an internal combustion engine. The battery and motor seem to be housed in what appears to be a single unit. It’ll be interesting to see how Ola optimises the weight distribution on this motorcycle.

The performance and efficiency of the bike are still unknown but expect it to be capable of hitting at least 100kph, considering the Ola S1 Pro electric scooter is capable of hitting the same speed. The battery should offer a decent range and there might be a provision to fast charge it as well.

Lastly, the bike’s design looks futuristic with its largely flat panels and sharp crease lines. As for the ergonomics, it appears to have a single-piece seat and a largely upright riding position.

There is no word on when Ola Electric plans to launch the bike in India. If and when it does, it will go up against the Tork Kratos R and Revolt RV400 that are currently on sale.
