Suzuki’s eWX electric hatchback design has been patented in India. For those not in the know, the model was first showcased as a concept at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. While the carmaker hasn’t revealed its details or India launch timeline, the new Maruti electric hatchback is likely to arrive sometime in 2026-2027. With the heavily localized K-EV platform, the eWX will be positioned aggressively against the Tata Tiago.ev, Citroen eC3, and MG Comet EV, priced between Rs 7.99 lakh – Rs 11.89 lakh, Rs 11.61 lakh – Rs 13.41 lakh, and Rs 6.99 lakh – Rs 9.40 lakh, respectively. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
Measuring nearly 3.4 meters in length, the Suzuki eWX has a tall and boxy stance similar to the WagonR. It features tall pillars and a flat roofline along with body cladding all around. The patent shows the electric hatchback with a curved windshield extending beyond the A-pillars and fully covered wheel caps. However, it misses out on the headlamps and B-pillars. Similar to the concept, the production-ready eWX is likely to feature vertical LED DRLs on the bumper and an LED strip on the front end. The sheet metal across the bonnet and largely flat doors might also be retained from the concept.
The overall length, width, and height of the Suzuki eWX will stand at 3,395mm, 1,475mm, and 1,620mm, respectively. This means the electric hatchback will be smaller than the Maruti WagonR and Maruti S-Presso, though it will be taller than the S-Presso. Powertrain details of the upcoming Maruti electric hatchback are still under wraps, but it’s likely to come with a single-motor configuration and have a range of around 230km.
Prior to the eWX, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the production-ready eVX mid-size electric SUV in early 2025. The model is likely to be sold via Nexa dealerships. Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat-based manufacturing plant will serve as an export hub for the eVX, with nearly 75-80 percent of the 1.5 lakh unit output intended for overseas markets.
