Top 3 Most Affordable Premium Electric Scooters in India

The electric scooter market has seen immense growth in the last couple of years. Now, with the FAME II subsidy out of the window, buyers are further looking for affordable options and brands are sufficing the needs by introducing entry-level models of their electric scooters. So, if you are looking for an affordable but premium electric scooter, then here are the top three options.

Ola S1X

The S1X is not only an entry ticket to the premium electric scooter market but also to the Ola range. It is offered in multiple variants but the 2kWh one is the most affordable at Rs. 74,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). It offers an 85kmph top speed and 95km of maximum range.

The S1X base trim looks identical to other Ola scooters for the most part but differs slightly with its headlight cowl, dual-tone bodywork, and round mirrors. Further, its list of features comprises LED illumination, a 4.3-inch LCD, three ride modes – eco, normal, and sports – reverse mode, cruise control, and more.

The overall hardware for the S1X is quite simple and it gets telescopic front forks, dual rear springs, and a drum brake at both ends. So, if you want an EV that gets you from point A to point B without too many fancy features, then the S1X can make for a good option.

TVS iQube

TVS too finally launched the entire iQube range and this meant the addition of another affordable variant to the list. The iQube, with its 2.2kWh battery pack, offers 75km of range with a 75kmph top speed. It also gets features like LED illumination, a five-inch TFT with smartphone connectivity, OTA updates, turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, park assist, distance to empty, two ride modes – Economy and Power, crash and fall alert, geo-fencing, anti-theft alert, live indicator status, and USB charging port.

The asking price for the TVS iQube is set at Rs. 94,999 for the 2.2kWh model. In comparison to the other two options, the iQube looks subtle and more family-friendly.

Ather 450S

The Ather 450S is the brand’s most affordable electric scooter and looks identical to the more expensive models in the Ather scooter range. The 450S retails for Rs. 1,25,599 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru) but you have to pay Rs. 12,999 more to access the full feature suite.

That said, it packs a 2.9kWh battery with a claimed true range of 90km and a top speed of 90kmph. Apart from that, the feature list includes a seven-inch Deep View display, LED illumination, 8GB RAM, 1GB storage, and a bunch of other rider aids with the Pro Pack. For reference, the list comprises four ride modes, Smart Eco, Eco, Ride, and Sport. Then, there is Auto Hold, call and music control, and a few more.

The Ather 450S looks sporty and modern. This paired with its practicality makes the 450S a good value-for-money proposition.

While there are other options too in the electric scooter market which cost less than these three, most of them are either poor quality or have poor brand recall. Not to mention, the brand value and after-sales too play a big role when purchasing a two-wheeler.
