Hero Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0 vs Honda Shine 100 – Competition Check

Hero MotoCorp recently launched the latest generation of the Splendor Plus Xtec. The bike received a few updates in its 2.0 trim and a small price bump. While the Splendor is a well-known name in the commuter market, the Honda Shine 100 also garnered many buyers. Honda recently revealed that the brand has sold over three lakh units of the Shine 100 since its launch last year.

Let’s see how the two updated Splendor and the Shine 100 fare on paper.

Commuter motorcycles are mostly lauded for their usability and performance over their form and design. So, these bikes usually have a simple structure, which applies to the Splendor and the Shine 100. Both motorcycles get minimal bodywork and focus on being low maintenance too. The Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0 gets a small grab rail at the back, doubling as a tail rack. Moreover, it also has hooks on both sides, making it easy for commercial use. The Shine on the other hand gets a more plain-jane build and should suit an office-goer.

With its Xtec trim, the Splendor comes loaded with a host of modern features. From an LED headlight to a fully digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity for call and SMS alerts, and a USB charging port too, the Splendor is quite loaded. The Shine 100 on the other hand uses the same analog setup and is notably low on features when compared to the Splendor.

Powering the Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0 is a 100cc single-cylinder engine. It makes 7.09bhp and 8.05Nm and gets a four-speed gearbox. The Shine 100 on the other hand uses a 98.9cc, single-cylinder motor with an output rated at 7.28bhp and 8.05Nm. It too gets a four-speed gearbox. The numbers here are quite even.

The hardware on these two motorcycles comprises telescopic front forks, dual rear shocks, a drum brake at both ends and alloy wheels with road-biased tyres. Again, the setup is on par here.

The asking price for the Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0 is Rs. Rs. 82,911 (ex-showroom, Delhi) whereas the Shine 100 costs Rs. 64,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The price difference between the two bikes is about Rs 18,000 which is quite significant. While the Splendor offers more features, it comes at a premium over the Shine’s asking price. So, if you are someone who is looking at just the primary use of a bike to commute around, then the Shine 100 should be a good choice. But if more bells and whistles is what you want, then we recommend you purchase the Splendor Plus Xtec 2.0.
