All Variants of Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus Now Available With 6 Airbags

Volkswagen has upgraded the safety features of its Taigun subcompact SUV and Virtus mid-size sedan, now equipping all variants with six airbags. Despite this enhancement, the prices for both models remain unchanged. The Volkswagen Taigun continues to be priced between Rs 11.70 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, while the Virtus is priced from Rs 11.56 lakh to Rs 19.41 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). Previously, the six-airbag setup was only available on the top-end Topline trims and GT variants.

Besides the standard six airbags, no other changes have been made to the Taigun and Virtus. Both models, which hold 5-star Global NCAP safety ratings, continue to offer features like electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, multi-collision braking system, traction control, and brake assist.

Commenting on the latest safety update, Mr. Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, “Today, we take great pride in announcing our portfolio of India 2.0 cars offering 6 airbags as standard across the line-up. With this, not only are we showcasing our commitment towards safer mobility but also reaffirming our core belief of safety being a key product pillar for Volkswagen India. We are also delighted to have achieved the over 1 lakh sales milestone by the Taigun and Virtus. We are grateful to our customers and will continue to offer aspirational, premium and competitive product offerings for the market.”

Talking about Volkswagen’s future plan, the German automaker is set to introduce a new three-row SUV, the Tayron, in India next year. The Tayron will compete with the Jeep Meridian, Skoda Kodiaq, and Toyota Fortuner. It will be based on the MQB EVO platform and imported via the CKD route. Globally, the Tayron is available with a 2.0L, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, delivering 184bhp and 320Nm on lower variants, and 217bhp and 350Nm on higher trims. Transmission duties are performed by a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox, and an AWD system is optional.

Volkswagen also plans to enter the Indian electric vehicle market with the ID.4 by the end of this year. The ID.4 will likely be offered in its highest configuration, featuring a 77kWh battery pack and dual motors with an AWD setup. It delivers a combined power output of 299bhp and 460Nm, with a claimed electric range of up to 480km on a single charge.
