New Suzuki V-Strom 160 unveiled overseas
  • It’s the same as the Haojue DL160
  • Launched in Columbia
  • To be manufactured in Brazil

Suzuki has added a new interesting offering to its portfolio in Columbia. The motorcycle is called V-Strom 160 and, as is the case with other V-Strom models, it seems to have some adventure intentions. It will be manufactured in Brazil and looks identical to the existing DL160 by Haojue, Suzuki’s Chinese partner.

Most of the components of the V-Strom 160 look road-biased, except for tyres that are block-pattern, dual-purpose rubbers. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends with telescopic forks and a monoshock. Neither the suspension setup has much travel nor the 160mm ground clearance is suitable for off-roading. However, the tall handlebar and seemingly spacious and comfortable seat clearly indicate that this bike is meant to be comfortable over distances longer than just daily city commutes.

Powering this small V-Strom is a 160cc, air-cooled, SOHC engine that produces 14.75bhp and 14Nm and comes mated to a five-speed gearbox. In case you’re wondering, this is not the same engine which does duty on the Gixxer sold in India. The design of the crankcase and cylinder head are quite different on both engines. Other features of the bike include a 795mm seat height, a 13-litre fuel tank, a round digital console, and a kerb weight of just 148kg.

The Suzuki V-Strom 160 might never be launched in India considering there’s no market for 150-160cc adventure-style motorcycles, besides the fact that the sales of the Gixxer and Gixxer SF have been quite poor for a while now.
