Introduction
In the last few years, many men and women have entered the world of entry-level premium motorcycles. These buyers have bought motorcycles to commute, explore the country, and also take a break from their hectic work lives. A large chunk of these buyers also focus on safety and that means, getting the right riding gear is important. However, they don’t want to spend a bomb acquiring a good set of jackets or pants. Aspirational motorcycling is new to them, so they want to start with affordable and value-for-money riding gear. Scala, a domestic riding gear company wants to take care of such buyers through their jacket, pants, and gloves range. The Scala Blaze is their most affordable riding jacket which was sent to us for a test.
The Construction
The Scala Blaze is an entry-level jacket, and as a result, the overall styling, construction, and feel are quite basic. Just like most riding jackets in the market, the Blaze is made of heavy-duty polyester fabric. The front side features two large mesh panels for ventilation, and at the back, there’s one large panel that extends toward the arm.
The Blaze is a commuter riding jacket, and as such, it has a street fit with a shorter length. There’s a strap adjustability feature for the waist and arms. On the inside, there are two water-resistant pockets, one to hold the phone and another to keep coins or smaller things. There’s also a hook that can be used to hold keys.
In terms of protection, the jacket comes with Safe Tech Level 2 protectors on the shoulder, back, and elbows. Interestingly, there’s a thick form for the chest area, which could easily be mistaken for proper protectors.
The Plan
We are in February, and that means some winter testing will happen. From April onwards, Mumbai’s extreme heat will reveal how this mesh jacket truly performs. While I have a favourite jacket to use in such heat, it will be interesting to see if the Scala Blaze could replace it.
