The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line India launch has been confirmed for April 14. The R Line is the range-topping variant of the latest-gen Tiguan, and it will arrive here as a full import. The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line is expected to be priced around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Tiguan R Line exterior design
R Line gets full-width LED light bands
As the range-topper of the Tiguan line-up, the R Line variants get sportier front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler and side panels in R Line spec. Additionally, it also gets full-width horizontal LED light strips at the front and rear, and larger 19-inch alloy wheels. The latest-gen Tiguan is also 30mm longer than the previous gen, which is still on sale here; the wheelbase remains the same as before.

Comes equipped with sports seats
On the inside, the Tiguan R Line exclusively comes equipped with sports seats and an ambient lighting package with three light zones and 30 colour options. Other features of highlight include a 10.3-inch digital instrument display and a 12.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment. The dashboard has a clean and upmarket look, and the infotainment systems use the latest version of VW’s MIB4 software platform that can receive over-the-air updates.

Expected to come with a 265hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
The new Tiguan is based on the MQB Evo platform, and the India-spec R Line model can be expected with a 265hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and get all-wheel drive. For reference, the existing Tiguan in India is available with a 190hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. Internationally, the Tiguan R Line also gets a range of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid petrols and a diesel engine, but these are unlikely to come to India.
The existing Tiguan is priced at Rs 38.17 lakh (ex-showroom, India), but expect a significant mark up in price for the next-generation SUV that’s arriving in a higher-spec.
