Maruti Suzuki Swift is set for a generational change in India. Prices and details will be officially announced on May 9, 2024, and bookings have already begun nationwide for a token sum of Rs 11,000. What we know so far is that the new 2024 Maruti Swift will feature Suzuki’s new Z-Series petrol engine and an interior inspired by the Fronx, along with a significantly improved design. The new powertrain is a 3-cylinder unit that can be ordered with or without mild hybrid technology. According to leaked documents, the new Swift will produce 81.6PS at 5,700rpm and 112Nm of torque at 4,300rpm.
Compared to the engine it replaces—the 1.2L, 4-cylinder K-Series engine—the new petrol engine generates 8.2PS more power and 1Nm more torque. Suzuki’s Z-Series gasoline unit is expected to deliver a fuel efficiency of 25.72kmpl, which is an improvement of 3.34kmpl (manual transmission) and 3.16kmpl (automatic transmission) over the previous version. The outgoing 1.2L petrol engine offered 22.38kmpl with manual transmission and 22.56kmpl with automatic transmission. Similar to the current model, the fourth-generation Swift is likely to offer both a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox.
The leaked brochure scan also reveals that the new 2024 Maruti Swift will come with six airbags as standard equipment. The hatchback will feature a 9-inch SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with an Arkamys sound system, wireless phone charging, A and C Type USB ports, rear AC vents, Suzuki Connect connected car technology, and LED fog lamps. Additionally, the carmaker has updated the rear suspension by increasing its travel by 26mm to enhance the driving experience. Other features, such as a flat-bottom steering wheel, analogue dials with a multi-information display (MID), ventilated seats, automatic climate control, and keyless entry, will also be available.
Given these comprehensive upgrades and the new, more efficient engine, the new 2024 Maruti Swift is likely to be more expensive than the current model, which costs between Rs 6.24 lakh and Rs 9.82 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
