Force Motors has introduced the new 5-door Gurkha and the updated 3-door Gurkha, priced at Rs 18 lakh and Rs 16.75 lakh, respectively. Bookings are already open nationwide, with deliveries expected to begin by mid-May 2024. The new 2024 Force Gurkha 3-door is more powerful and more expensive than the diesel 4WD variant of the Thar. Moreover, Force’s lifestyle off-road SUV offers more features than the base variant of the Thar. The new 5-door Force Gurkha is set to compete directly with the upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar, which is scheduled for launch on August 15, 2024.

Powertrain

Both the new 5-door Force Gurkha and the updated 3-door Gurkha are powered by the same 2.6L Mercedes-sourced diesel engine, now tuned to produce more power. The engine delivers 140bhp at 3200rpm and 320Nm of torque between 1400rpm-2600rpm. In comparison, the Mahindra Thar is equipped with a 2.2L diesel engine that generates 132bhp. Both versions of the Gurkha come standard with a 4WD drivetrain.

Design and Interior

Changes to the design and interior are minimal. The new Force Gurkha 5-door and 3-door feature updated seat upholstery and a fully digital instrument cluster. The SUVs also offer a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, tilt-telescopic steering adjustment, powered ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors), a tire pressure monitoring system, a rear camera, and dual airbags—features carried forward from the previous model.

Suspension and Braking

Both off-road SUVs use a ladder-type chassis and are equipped with independent double wishbone suspension with coil springs at the front, and a multi-link setup with panhard rod and coil springs at the rear. Braking is handled by hydraulic front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Additionally, the new Force Gurkha has ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), along with a water-wading capacity of 700mm.

The 5-door Force Gurkha has an overall length of 4,390mm, a width of 1,865mm, and a height of 2,095mm (without a roof carrier). It has a wheelbase of 2,825mm.
