New-Gen Toyota Fortuner Debut & India Launch Details

Toyota Fortuner, the top-selling SUV from the Japanese automaker in India, is all set for a generational update. While the official debut and launch details are yet to be announced, the new model is expected to make its global debut towards the end of 2024, with its India launch likely to happen in early 2025. This new generation will feature significant changes.

Unlike the current model, which is built on the IMV platform, the new Toyota Fortuner will be based on the TNGA-F architecture. This platform is also used for the new Tacoma pickup truck, the Land Cruiser 300 SUV, and the Lexus LX500d. The TNGA-F platform supports various body styles and engine types, including hybrid and internal combustion engines (ICE).

Recently, Toyota introduced a version of the Fortuner equipped with mild hybrid technology. This variant features a 2.8-liter diesel engine, a 48V setup, and an electric motor generator, delivering a peak power of 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. The mild hybrid system enhances the vehicle’s power output by an additional 16bhp and increases the torque by 42Nm. This setup is claimed to have no impact on the SUV’s off-road and towing capabilities while offering improved torque assistance. Additionally, the regenerative braking system is expected to enhance overall performance.

The new Toyota Fortuner will be available with both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and 4X4 drivetrain configurations. The mild hybrid powertrain will be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.8-liter diesel with a 4X4 setup is expected to offer a fuel efficiency of 12.65 kmpl, while the mild hybrid version of the same engine promises a mileage of 13.15 kmpl.

Inside, the Fortuner will undergo a significant upgrade with the addition of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) technology through the Toyota Safety Suite, offering features such as lane tracing assist, lane departure alert, pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beam, road sign assist, and proactive driving assist. The new Toyota Fortuner will also come equipped with a vehicle stability control system designed to reduce skidding and rollover risks. The hydraulic steering system will be replaced with an electric power-assisted unit for better control and efficiency.
