The Tata Nexon recently received a new rival in the form of the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which comes with several segment-first features and is priced from Rs 7.409 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Its impact is clearly evident with the recently launched new entry-level Smart+ variants of the Nexon, making its pricing more competitive against its arch rival.
To give it more of an edge, Tata Motors is likely to introduce the Nexon with a panoramic sunroof, although this feature might be reserved for the higher trims. The lower Nexon variants are expected to continue featuring the single-pane sunroof. Just so you know, the Mahindra XUV300 is the first vehicle in its segment to come with a panoramic sunroof, and it boasts the largest one as well.
With the introduction of the panoramic sunroof, the higher trims of the Tata Nexon will witness a minor price hike. Currently, the single-pane sunroof variants of the Nexon are available at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakh. The subcompact SUV’s engine setup includes a 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5L, 4-cylinder diesel. While the former delivers a maximum power of 120bhp and 170Nm of torque, the latter generates a peak power of 115bhp and 260Nm of torque. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit.
In other updates, Tata Motors will soon launch the Nexon CNG with its twin CNG cylinder technology. The subcompact SUV will come with the 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a CNG kit. It will be the first turbo-petrol CNG car in its category, competing against the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. The Tata Nexon CNG will have two CNG cylinder tanks placed under the boot floor, ensuring no compromise on boot space. It will also have a single ECU for quick shifts between CNG and petrol modes.
