The next-generation KTM 390 Adventure is being tested extensively, both in India and abroad. This is an all new-motorcycle and everything from the chassis to the design, features etc. bear no resemblance to the outgoing bike. While there are a number of images of the bike being tested on the road, a new image shows the new KTM 390 Adventure being tested off-road. And this has revealed new details.
More focus on off-road ability
KTM’s accomplishments in the rally racing world, including the Dakar are well known and the company seems to have transferred all those learnings to the development of the new 390 Adventure.
The bike’s design is heavily inspired by KTM’s rally bikes, evident in the high-mounted fairing, the stacked LED projector lights and the tall windscreen. The fuel tank is slim and if you look closely, the bike is even slimmer towards the tail section. This is a classic case of form winning over function as seen in the stand up ergonomics of the bike.
The test rider seems to have sufficient purchase for his legs, from the knees and below, to latch on to the mid section of the bike. He also seems to be a tall person and considering this, the reach to the handlebar looks easy and natural, without the need to bend too much.
The off-road ergonomics of the new KTM 390 Adventure does appear to be sorted and we shall ascertain this when we ride the bike in India, following its launch.
Reveal by end of 2024
KTM is expected to reveal the 390 Adventure towards the end of this year, likely at the EICMA 2024. This will be one of its if not the big ticket launches of 2024. To recap, the new 390 Adventure is expected to be powered by the latest generation 390 Duke’s engine. The 399cc, liquid-cooled engine makes 45.3bhp and 39Nm.
Expect KTM to offer a comprehensive set of features on the bike, such as all-LED lights, TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, traction control, quickshifter and more.
Once launched it will go up against the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.
