One of the highly anticipated launches from Mahindra has just been spied undisguised. Images of the upcoming Mahindra 5-door Thar have been leaked online. The images reveal the front end of a production-ready 5-door Thar, however, no interior and rear images are available.
- New 6-slot grilled design
- To get a projector LED headlamp setup
- Will be offered with three engine options
Mahindra Thar 5-door: what’s new
What we can confirm from the images is that the Thar 5-door will get a new grille design, which is divided into six slots, each double stacked, unlike seven slots present on the current 3-door Thar. The headlamps have retained the Thar’s circular design and they now get an LED projector setup with a C-shaped DRL.
Moving over to the side, there is a camera present on the wing mirror, which confirms that this SUV will get a 360-deg camera setup. Also worth noting is that the rear door handle is located on the door frame, like the previous generation Maruti Suzuki Swift.
Mahindra Thar 5-door: what we know
As mentioned earlier, these are the only new images of the SUV, which has been spied in the past under heavy camouflage. We do know that the Mahindra Thar 5-door will be equipped with dual 10.25-inch displays, one serving as the digital instrument screen and one for the infotainment unit. We also know that the ladder-on-frame SUV will get a panoramic sunroof and higher variants will also be equipped with ADAS technology, a feature currently present on other Mahindra models namely the XUV3XO and the XUV700.
The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-door will be offered with a variety of engines which will get manual and automatic gearbox options, a 1.5-litre entry-level diesel engine, and a more powerful 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines. Apart from the standard rear-wheel-drive, the SUV will also be available with a 4WD setup, just like the current 3-door Thar on sale.
Mahindra Thar 5-door: expected launch and rivals
In 2020, Mahindra revealed the 3-door Thar on August 15 and we believe that this could be the case in 2024 as well. Production for the SUV has begun and dealers have also been accepting unofficial bookings, so you can be assured that it's not too far away. It will likely be called the Mahindra Thar Armada upon launch and will have direct rivals in the Force Gurkha 5-door and the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and it will also rival other midsize SUVs such as the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and more.
