– Will be powered by a 1,300cc boxer twin engine
– To be loaded with electronic rider aids
– Spotted testing overseas
BMW is working on a bunch of new upcoming products including an automatic gearbox and new motorcycles as well. One if the offerings, the upcoming R 1300 RT has been spotted in its prototype stage and here is what it looks like.
The BMW R 1300 RT will be a successor to the R 1250 RT. Just like the R 1300 GS evolved in terms of design, rider aids, proportions, and motor, the R 1300 RT too will follow suite. As seen here, its test bike appears vastly different from the front profile. The R 1300 RT gets a vertically set LED headlight with DRLs on the sides. The transparent visor appears flatter and less scooped than the current RT model. It appears that the rear view mirrors too have been repositioned and moved slightly upwards.
Then, the side fairing on the R 1300 RT is completely different but just as bulky if not more, than the R 1250 RT. Further, the RT series is a proper tourer and the 1300 too will be equipped with a pair of panniers and a top box, as seen in these spy shots.
Speaking of the motor, BMW will house its newly developed 1300cc boxer twin engine in the R 1300 RT. Its power output could be around 145bhp and 140Nm. It will feature a shaft drive system along with a six-speed gearbox. That said, BMW is also working on an automatic transmission, and we expect the R 1300 RT could also have that option.
On the electronics front, you can expect it to pack a truckload. From multiple ride modes (including custom), traction control, ABS modes, a large TFT with smartphone connectivity, and more. Its hardware comprises BMW’s telelever at the front for better ride quality.
Currently, the BMW R 1300 RT appears to be in its early stages of testing. We expect BMW to make an official announcement sometime in 2025. While the RT series isn’t very popular in India, it is used quite extensively in the USA and Europe as a part of the police fleet.
