2025 Kawasaki KLX 230 Sherpa launched in Japan
  • Based on the India-bound standard KLX 230
  • Boasts a lower ground clearance and lighter weight
  • Produces slightly more torque

While we Indians are waiting for the official launch of the Kawasaki KLX 230 to take place, the Japanese brand has launched a new Sherpa version of the motorcycle in its home country. It is based on the same platform as the standard KLX but differs in a few areas.

Kawasaki has subtly tweaked the design of the KLX 230 Sherpa. It boasts a different headlamp cowl with a separate visor, unlike the standard trim which has a single panel surrounding the headlamp. Similarly, the tank extensions are smaller bolted-on units as opposed to the longer ones on the standard version that are a part of the fuel tank assembly. Further, the tail section on the Sherpa looks more minimalistic as it doesn’t have an additional panel covering the high-set, side-slung exhaust pipe.

Other changes on the Sherpa over the standard model of the KLX include marginally less suspension travel, a 25mm lower ground clearance at 240mm, and a kerb weight of 134kg, which is 5kg lighter. However, the wheel sizes are the same at 21 and 18 inches. Powering the bike is also the same 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder that produces 17.7bhp and 19Nm. Notably, the torque output on the Sherpa is marginally higher.

The standard Kawasaki KLX 230 is expected to be launched in India in December at IBW, Goa. It is expected to be priced around 2.50-2.60 lakh, ex-showroom.
