The BMW R 12 S is an ode to the BMW R 90 S from the 1970’s. It is based on the BMW R 12 nine T, however, its styling elements are inspired by the 70’s bike. Here are some of the details in the images.
The BMW R 12 S has a proper cafe racer design. From the semi-fairing that wraps around the round LED headlight, to the bubble-shaped windscreen above it or the beef fuel tank and slim rear, the bike is a shout-out to the good old days of motorcycles from an era gone by.
The bar-end mirrors, chrome, wire-spoke rims, and orange/silver paint add to the retro effect.
Powering the BMW R 12 S is a 1,170cc boxer-twin motor that belts out a humble 109bhp and 115Nm. It is linked to a six-speed gearbox.
Helping keep everything in check is a comprehensive electronics suite. There is traction control, engine brake control, hill start assist, cruise control and three ride modes- rain, road and dynamic.
An adjustable USD fork and monoshock suspend the frame of the BMW R 12 S. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels whereas braking duties are taken care of by two 310mm discs at the front and a 265mm disc at the rear.
The BMW R 12 S will be sold in limited numbers only and there is no word yet on any units being allocated for India.
