Introduction

One of the biggest challenges that riders face while selecting a riding jacket is sizing. More often than not, you come across jackets that fit in certain ways but don’t in others. We Indians, after all, come in various sizes, long arms, short torso, pot-bellied, or fit enough to walk the ramp. Finding a jacket that fits well, especially with the armour in place, is a challenge.

And that is where the ViaTerra Munro jacket comes in. This is India’s first tailor-made jacket, which means it addresses one of the most important concerns about fitting and sizing. But that’s not the only reason why this has become my go-to riding jacket.

The construction

The Munro is made of 100 per cent Cordura. This means that not just the high impact areas like the elbows or shoulders, but the entire jacket is made of the aforementioned material. This provides better resistance to everyday wear and tear while also offering protection from friction burns should you come off the motorcycle.

Initial impressions of the stitching quality are quite impressive. There are no ungainly gaps, loose threads, or other issues. ViaTerra has also used quality components like YKK zippers, which are known to be quite durable in dusty conditions.

There are expansive mesh panels across the front, back, and arms, which are said to offer good ventilation on hot days. This is something I’m eager to test once summer arrives.

As for the armour, there are SAS TECH Level 2 chest, back, elbow, and shoulder protectors.

The features

Beyond the top-notch construction, the Munro has other features that I’ve come to appreciate. The pockets are large enough to accommodate a wallet and more. There is a nifty card holder on the left wrist and a dedicated phone packet at the back of the jacket that is quite easy to access.

Additionally, there are reflective inserts on the front, back, and arms in specific areas to enhance visibility in the dark.

The plan

I’m going to wear this jacket whenever I’m on a motorcycle, be it for shoots, office commutes or interstate rides, come rain or shine. We will be testing the comfort and durability as well as determining if the Munro is worth its price tag.
