Introduction

Rahgear is a new Indore-based motorcycle luggage brand focused on making products that are not just durable but also modular. The Battle Vest Hydration Pack, for instance, can be worn in many ways, which is one of its main highlights. One look at its product page on Rahgear’s website intrigued us enough to want to get our hands on it for our long and short rides. Before we bring you a detailed long-term review of the Battle Vest, here’s a quick look at its construction and features.

Construction

The Battle Vest boasts a very straightforward rectangular design and appears bigger than most other hydration packs. It is made up of 600D polyester, a synthetic fabric commonly used for making outdoor gear and bags. The D stands for denier, a term used to measure the thickness and weight of the fabric threads. With its PU (polyurethane) coating, this hydration pack is both abrasion and water-resistant. Moreover, there are YKK zippers and sliders, along with 3M Scotchline reflectors.

Features

This is where things get interesting with the Battle Vest as it can be worn in many ways. Firstly, it can be used as a full-fledged vest with the main bag accompanied by the lumbar support belt holding the MOLLE pouches. If you find the entire setup visually outrageous, you can make it minimalistic by getting rid of not only the pouches but also the lumbar support belt, as it comes buckled to the main bag. However, it is recommended to wear the entire setup with the lumbar support belt for distributing the weight evenly across your body and reducing fatigue.

If you need additional space to carry your small belongings, the pouches can be secured to the back panel, which is completely covered with MOLLE webbing. These webbings can also be used to attach Rahgear’s Compack 6 or Compack 15 tail bags. Interestingly, the lumbar support belt along with the MOLLE pouches can be used as a standalone waist belt using the extra connector straps that come with the Battle Vest.

Besides the main compartment, which can accommodate a hydration bladder of up to 3-litre capacity, there’s an additional zippered pocket for extra storage space. The lumbar support also boasts inbuilt spaces to store small items like a smartphone or cards. Plus, the back panel is breathable. The hydration bladder, which must be bought separately, is 100 per cent free of Bisphenol A (BPA), a harmful chemical compound commonly found in plastic products. Moreover, it gets a 360-degree rotating mouthpiece and a shut on/off valve.
