The new Q5 Sportback looks pretty similar to the standard SUV when viewed from the front, but that’s where the similarities end. It has a sloping roofline and a completely unique rear with a pronounced spoiler that compliments its coupe-SUV looks. At the back, it gets full-width tail-lamps with OLED tech and dual-tone bumper with a contrasting silver trim, similar to the standard SUV.

The coupe-SUV has a more modern cabin than its predecessor, and there are three equipment levels on offer: Sport, S Line and Quattro. Higher variants get Audi’s new ‘Digital Stage’ screen, which has an 11.9-inch digital instrument display and a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen combined into one huge OLED panel. Like in the standard Audi Q5, a 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger is available as an option.

New Audi Q5 Sportback platform, powertrain

The Q5 Sportback is underpinned by Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) platform, giving the coupe-SUV a significant technical upgrade over the outgoing model. This platform also underpins the A5 sedan and the standard Q5 SUV. The Q5 Sportback also gets new steel springs and passive dampers that are claimed to improve the car’s ride. Air suspension is optional.

As for the powertrain line-up, The entry-level engine is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol producing 204hp and 340Nm, with front-wheel drive or AWD setup. It also gets a 204hp, 400Nm, 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel quattro available as standard. Both engines come with the 48V mild-hybrid tech, which adds up to 24hp by sourcing energy from a 1.7kWh battery.

The new SQ5 Sportback, the coupe-SUV’s performance-oriented top variant, now comes with a petrol engine instead of diesel and gets a mild-hybrid 3.0-litre V6 TFSI petrol good for 362hp and 550Nm. It has Quattro AWD as standard, with gearbox duties conducted by a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Audi currently sells the previous-generation Q5 in India, and the next-gen Q5 is yet to make it to our shores. As for the Sportback body style, Audi does sell the smaller Q3 Sportback in India. It remains to be seen if the automaker introduces the new Q5 Sportback here to take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.
