Kia Syros Name Trademarked – Is It For New Punch & Exter Rival SUV?

Kia is developing a new micro SUV that’s currently undergoing testing, often spotted with camouflage. Initially, the final production version was expected to be called ‘Kia Clavis.’ However, recent trademark filings suggest that ‘Kia Syros’ could be the official name for the upcoming micro SUV. The model, positioned against competitors like the Tata Punch, Hyundai Exter, and Maruti Fronx, is expected to measure around 3.8 meters in length, making it the smallest and most affordable SUV from Kia in India.

Here’s what we have known so far about the Kia Syros or Kia Clavis?

Design and Features

Spy images indicate that the new Kia Syros (or Kia Clavis) will have a upright stance with high ground clearance. It will feature vertically positioned LED headlamps and taillamps, roof rails, thick body cladding, and large glass windows with distinct kinks. These design elements contribute to its SUV-like appearance.

While it’s still early to predict the interior and features, there’s speculation that the Kia Syros could offer a dual-screen setup, serving as the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Higher trims might include exclusive features like leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats, a Bose audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. There are rumors that the new Kia micro SUV could also be equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). In terms of safety, it might come with six airbags, rear disc brakes, ABS, and a tire pressure monitoring system.

Engine and Powertrain

The new Kia Syros (or Kia Clavis) is expected to have both petrol and electric powertrains, with the electric version possibly arriving at a later stage. The micro SUV will come with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) system as standard.

Launch and Pricing

The new Kia micro SUV is anticipated to make its India debut in late 2024, with a market launch expected in early 2025. Given its compact size and a high degree of localization, it’s likely to be priced at a slight premium over the Kia Sonet, but still competitive within its segment.
