-Provides automated gearshifts

-Was introduced in the R 1300 GS Adventure

The BMW R 1300 GS will get the company’s Automated Shift Assistant or ASA from the 2025 model onwards. The Automated Shift Assistant is a system where two electromechanical actuators automate the clutch control and gear shifts of the six-speed transmission. This practically eliminates the need to operate the clutch lever.

The ASA consists of two modes- M shift mode and D shift mode. When the rider selects the ‘M’ mode, they can change gears using the foot lever, without the need to use the clutch lever. The system automatically downshifts a gear or two if the engine RPM drops below a gear-dependent minimum RPM. This prevents the engine from stalling.

In the ‘D’ mode, the system performs automated gearshifts without any need of the rider to use the clutch lever or the foot lever. The system selects the gear depending on the engine rpm, load, etc. This takes the stress off changing gears and will be useful while riding over the course of a long day.

Besides the ASA, that will be an optional extra, there aren’t likely to be any other changes to the BMW R 1300 GS. To recap, the bike is an all-new model, featuring a new chassis, suspension and 1,300cc, boxer twin engine. It makes 145bhp at 7,750rpm and 149Nm at 6,500rpm and is linked to a six-speed gearbox that uses a shaft drive system.

We recently rode the bike in India and here is the review of the new R 1300 GS.
