Mahindra Bolero Neo Scores 1 Star In Global NCAP

Global NCAP has crash-tested the Mahindra Bolero Neo SUV, revealing disappointing safety results. The SUV received a 1-star rating for both adult and child occupant protection, being one of the first to be evaluated under the new Global NCAP protocols. The crash test indicated that the Bolero Neo’s structure and footwell area were unstable, providing poor protection for the driver’s feet and weak chest protection. The vehicle scored 20.26 out of a possible 34 points for adult occupant protection.

Talking about the child occupant protection, the Bolero Neo displayed “acceptable dynamic performance,” scoring 12.71 out of a maximum of 49 points. The side benches were reported to have a significant risk to all occupants. The tested model had one child restraint system (CRS) and two airbags but lacked important safety features such as three-point seat belts for all passengers, a passenger airbag switch, curtain airbags, and seat belt reminders for all passengers.

The Mahindra Bolero Neo is available in four trim levels—N4, N8, N10R, and N10 (O)—with respective ex-showroom prices of Rs 9.90 lakh, Rs 10.50 lakh, Rs 11.47 lakh, and Rs 12.15 lakh. The SUV is powered by a 1.5L diesel engine with a 5-speed manual gearbox, producing 100PS and 260Nm of torque. Recently, Mahindra introduced the Bolero Neo+ in two variants—P4 and P10—priced at Rs 11.39 lakh and Rs 12.49 lakh, respectively.

The Bolero Neo+ uses a 2.2L diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, delivering 120PS and 280Nm of torque. Unlike the Bolero Neo, this variant comes with a 9-seater configuration and additional features such as a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, and Aux connectivity, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear power windows, an anti-glare interior rearview mirror (IRVM), and electrically adjustable outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs).
