Tata Altroz Racer, the sportier variant of the premium hatchback, made its public appearance at the last year’s Auto Expo. It was showcased again earlier this year at the first edition of Bharat Mobility Show, but with slightly different styling and colour scheme. While we all have been waiting for its market launch ever since its first appearance, the model is now ready to hit showrooms in June 2024. Its bookings will begin near its launch.
Under the hood, the Tata Altroz Racer employs the same 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Nexon subcompact SUV. The motor pushes out a peak power of 120bhp and 170Nm of torque, thus making it 10bhp more powerful and 30Nm torquier than Altroz iTurbo. The Racer variant is expected to come only with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Similar to the showcased model, the final version will be offered in dual-tone colour options. Upfront, it will feature the twin racing strips on the bonnet and roof. Its front grille will be slightly different from the regular model. The Altroz Racer will have ‘Racer’ badging on the front fenders along with the newly-designed alloy wheels.
The sporty theme will continue inside the cabin as well. The Tata Altroz Racer will have coloured accents on the dashboard and new leatherette upholstery with contrast stitching. When it comes to features, the new variant will offer a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a HUD unit, a 360 degree camera and a voice assisted sunroof. On the safety front, it will get six airbags and electronic stability control as standard fitments.
As far as pricing is concerned, the new Altroz Racer is expected to cost between Rs 10 lakh – Rs 12.50 lakh. Here, it will be positioned against the Hyundai i20 N Line and turbo-petrol variants of the Toyota Taisor and Maruti Fronx.
